Chris Forwood gave a display in two very distinct halves.
The first half was ‘Stamps and Symbols.’ Chris looked at the way images on stamps have been used for often subtle propaganda using the dispute between Japan and Korea over an island in the Sea of Japan and then that between Argentina and Britain. He then showed examples of when stamp design goes badly wrong, including an OSTRICH on an AIRMAIL stamp and President Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963, congratulating Martin Luther King on winning his Nobel prize in 1964.
The second half of the display was a more conventional look at the GB George V issues but did include several unusual items including a Downey Head 1d in an imperforate block of four used on cover.
A very entertaining afternoon, which was enjoyed by all.
