Our speaker in August, John Bushell gave a wonderful display on Chilean Airmails.
John has collected Chilean aviation for over 40 years, displaying several rare items including a pilot signed Jean Mermoz cover from 1929. On display were other pilot signed covers, a few from James Doolittle’s flights in 1928, along with Frank Ormsbee and Raymond Williams signed covers from 1929. In his display he showed 60 sheets, including every flight of 1932. We were also treated with some later dated Zeppelins covers and a Hindenburg flight – Germany to Santiago cover.
The second half mainly comprised of first flight and special covers into and out of Chile. The final two covers were of Concorde round the world flight including, of course, Chile.
