April’s meeting was Christine Earle’s Memorial Day, and it was appropriate that our Chairman, Patrick Reid presented a couple of Christine’s displays.
The tongue in cheek one frame presentation of the Battle of Hastings in the guise of a newspaper called the Chronicle reflected Christine’s humour and brilliance at displaying.
Patrick went on to display her 1940 Stamp Centenary UK issue from the ½d to 2½d in the first half and the 3d in the second half. On display was a great variety of FDCs including special ones from the RPSL and joint St. John’s and Red Cross issues with special cancels, along with a wide range of covers with the correct usage to make up the postage value. Usages included a number of services, Express, Registered, Censor marks, return mail, instruction marks & postage dues. We saw some international issues in the second half that included stamps, Cinderellas, tickets and Exhibition catalogues from the Guildhall and the RPSL.
A superb afternoon highlighting Christine’s wonderful personality, which will never be forgotten.
